I'll be honest. I've never written a blog. I'm not a writer, but as I head toward 50 I feel like I have thoughts I want to share. This is me up on Mt. Bachelor below the pinnacles in half bowl. I do like to ski, but I am by no means any kind of jock and never have been. I live in a town of mega-jocks. It can be intimidating but it can also be beneficial. There are so many opportunities for outdoor activities here anyway, but add so many athletes to the mix, and they want to share their enthusiasm. Hence the title to this post. I've never been a runner. I ski and hike and camp and canoe and mountain bike. No running--until now. Somehow turning 50 (coming in June!) has driven me to try running once again. I remember my best friend (who is turning 50 tomorrow--Happy Birthday Mar!) and I trying to get into the running groove in college. We would plod along Campus Drive suffering and hating it the whole time. I've had many running false starts like that. So why in the world did I sign up for FootZone's Learn to Run class (which was great, by the way) and now the Half-Marathon Training class? I don't know. It's something about turning 50. I guess it's part of my life bucket list. It is also that I don't care how I look or what other people think; at 50 I want to do what I want to do.
So here I am starting a practice as well, but not just any practice. I see a vision for integrative medicine in our healthcare system, and I want to spread the word. I want to be part of the solution. It's not about money or status; it never was much for me anyway. It's about the Big Picture--the What's Important in LIfe Picture. I am going to give it my all and try to help some people; I'm going to try to precipitate some needed change in healthcare in the town of Bend that I love so dearly!
